Ex-Bucs Star, 27, Passes Away
Former Orlando Pirates forward, Justin Shonga, has passed away at the age of 27.
From 2017 to 2020, the Zambian international scored 16 goals in 77 appearances across all competitions for the Buccaneers.
During the next four years, Shonga played for the likes of Cape Town City, Sekhukhune United and Nkwazi FC before joining Saudi Arabian outfit, Najran SC, in February this year. He was also a regular player for Chipolopolo, the Zambian national men’s team.
Unfortunately, in a statement published on Sunday, 30 June, the Zambian Football Association confirmed that Shonga had succumbed to an unspecified illness that same day.
“Former Chipolopolo forward Justin Shonga has died,” the statement reads. “Zambia Police Deputy Spokesperson Dan Mwale has confirmed in an interview with the FAZ Media Team. Mwale said Shonga died at Sikanze Police Hospital after a short illness. More details will be availed [sic] in due course.”
Details regarding Shonga’s memorial service and funeral are expected to be shared later this week.
